Mrs. Vaishali Shah
Empowerment of women is discussed regularly but Mrs. Vaishali Shah makes a great example of what true women empowerment can muster. Mrs. Vaishali Shah is AWRS’ super-strength and a one-woman-army that has now tended to more than 10000 stray and abandoned animals.
Her Love For Animals
An avid lover of art and an architect by profession, Mrs. Shah has always been fond of animals. Growing up she inherited kindness towards animals from her parents and grandparents.
But in 2006, an incident changed her life forever and for better. On her way to work, she witnessed an accident that left a dog severely injured. Her haste and prior commitments made it difficult for her to stop and help the dog. But on her way back, the same dog in an even worse condition now, left her shocked. She couldn’t believe that no one came up to help the dog. But she realized that blaming won’t solve any problems and took the matter in her own hands.
She took the wounded dog to an animal hospital and got him treated. Laddoo, as she dearly calls him, has since been living with her. Laddoo is the first of the many animals she has rescued since 2006.
The Notion Of AWRS
With more and more animal rescue queries, she eventually was left with no more space at her residence and decided to build a full-fledged shelter for her many needy animals.
In 2013, within 6 months of the idea, she got AWRS built herself and began the working of the shelter with 35 dogs.
The shelter now houses over 400 animals of different species and takes care of each resident’s food, medicines, health checkups, cleaning etc.
